The Midland YMCA is looking for a self-motivated, passionate individual to join our team as the Aquatics Director. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Job Description

Oversees the development and operations of aquatics programs. Recruits, trains, and supports assigned staff ensuring adequate staff coverage. Develops, organizes, and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatics programs.

  • Aquatic & water safety experience preferred.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Proficient in computer programs and other office systems (financial, member management, etc.)
  • Ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Required Certifications/Training

  • YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification preferred. (Must be obtained within 60 days of hire if not current.)
  • Completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain & implement the Aquatic Safety Plan (available upon request)
  • Supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans, and YMCA Mission.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, leads, develops, and directs personnel and volunteers.
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Facilitates staff in-service.
  • Creates and schedules YMCA Learn to Swim classes and private swim lessons.
  • Utilizing Daxko Operations to create and manage programs for registrations.
  • Compiles program statistics.
  • Lifeguard and teach swim lessons when needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness of pool areas daily.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations. Including maintaining pool chemicals, pool mechanical, and other aquatic equipment.
  • Monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assists in the marketing and the distribution of program information.
  • Raise funds, advocate for, and assists with YMCA fundraising activities.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to
    all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely, professional manner.
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
